N95 vs FFP3 and FFP2

The type of respirator most often discussed is the N95. this is a US standard administered by NIOSH - part of the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Two different standards are used in Europe." The "filter face piece" score (FFP) comes from EN standard 149:2001. then EN 143 standard covers P1/P2/P3 scoring. Both of these standards are maintained by CEN (European Committee for Standardization).

Let's see how all the different standards compare.Standard filter capacity for respirators

As you can see, the closest European equivalent to N95 is the FFP2/P2 class respirator, which has a 94% rating, compared to the 95% rating of N95.

Similarly, the closest to N100 is the P3 rated respirator - with FFP3 coming in a close second.
